Hello, my name is Johan Cristobal, a fifth-year graduate student and Doctoral Candidate in the Mathematics Department at University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL)! 🎉🎉🎉
For my dissertation, I focus on Math Education. In particular, I am trying to understand more about frames of teaching and learning at the undergraduate mathematics level of instruction, and how local and national culture and histories of mathematics learning influences our ways of teaching mathematics. Most (in)formative to my research are the critical epistemologies and culturally relevant/sustaining pedagogies.
I am advised by Dr. Yvonne Lai, her website.
My curriculum vitae is right here.
For my teaching, I've taught as instructor of record for Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, and a content course for Pre-Service Mathematics Teachers at the Middle School level.
On top of teaching, I've also aided in course development. I worked tremendously hard on the College Algebra Co-requisite Course, in which I reordered the sections for a better scaffolding and I made videos to be embedded in the online free textbook. You can see an example of this in the PORTOFOLIO tab, or check out the Open Educational Resource for UNL's Intermediate Algebra Course.
